The New Doctor

This post is going to be about Doctor Who. If you've never heard of the show, it is a British science fiction TV series that was created in the 60's and was brought back in 2005 after the original ended in 1989. The show centers around a time traveling man who's known as the Doctor and his ever changing companions. There have been 11 incarnations of the Doctor so far, the 12th having just been announced on Sunday... and that's where this post really begins.

If you haven't already heard, Peter Capaldi is set to take over the role of the Doctor at the end of this year. According to a BBC News article, Capaldi, 55, will be the oldest Doctor since William Hartnell (the original Doctor), who was the same age. His age seems to be a big contrasting factor between him and Matt Smith, who played the 11th Doctor. Smith was just 26 (I think) when he first took the role and the youngest person to play the Doctor to date.

I began watching the show, starting from the 2005 episodes, back in 2010 right after Matt Smith took over for David Tennant. Each actor brings his own personality and differences to the Doctor, I think it's hard to pick an actor I love the best in the role. When I was watching David Tennant I thought there was no way I had like this new guy I'd never even heard of. I could not see how anyone could top my love for David Tennant in this role; his slightly crazy, energetic, heart felt way of playing the character in combination with the length of time he spent on the show, really made him a memorable part of Doctor Who. Despite all of these thoughts, all of my concerns went out the window during the first episodes with Matt Smith. Smith brought something new, young, and hip to the Doctor; he suddenly seemed like a teddy bear in that cute and cuddly way that brings you comfort and familiarity. There was no awkward transition period between the two actors, just a seamless jump from one personality to the other.

There are going to be tears.

I think Matt Smith felt like more of a character I would have as a friend than previous Doctors, who I would identify as family/parental type friends. I think this allowed for a greater connection with the show than I had previously felt. I'm not trying to say that Capaldi's age will greatly effect my affection for the show or for the character of the Doctor, that is doubtful, but I think it will effect the way I identify with the show. Overall though, no one should be focusing on how old he is or what Peter looks like, it all depends on his ability and love of the character.

If there's anything to learn from previous transitions, it is to keep an open mind. There is a reason these actors were chosen to play the Doctor and the writers and casting directors have done a great job so far. Plus, there's always room in our hearts for more wonderful characters. I will be very sad to see Matt Smith leave Doctor Who, but I can't wait to see what Peter Capaldi brings to the role!

Bringing on the Edge for Fall

I thought I'd try my hand once more at Polyvore. What a difference a little poking around will do. This time was much more fun than the last and I'm kind of excited about this combination of things. I have been all over lately checking out the new fall fashion; someone keep me away from online shopping! I found most, if not all, of these gems on Piperlime. Seriously I've been obsessed with that website lately.

My New Do

I'm super excited to reveal my new hair cut to you guys. I went to Pavlova salon this morning with an idea for a shorter look and put my trust in my hairdresser, Sara, as to what would look great in the end. Sara did an amazing job and did not let me down (she never does)! Since I have pretty really think hair, she suggested I go for something like Frankie Sandford's (from The Saturdays) look. I had never really seen Frankie's hair before, but I immediately agreed when she found a picture to show me.

I was so ready for a fresh start and a completely new look. I have never gone this short before and was just ready for something different. The style is also pretty unique, with more of an artsy asymmetrical flair to it, which I loved.

I forgot to take a pre-cut selfie this morning so this is about the most recent picture really showing off the before length.

I can't wait to play around with it some more and see all the different ways I can style it. Plus for those of you who watch Doctor Who I feel a little bit like Eleven. I should be rocking a bow tie and a fez right now. Geronimo!

July Favorites

August starts tomorrow and it is time to say goodbye to July. I'm going to try something new and make a compilation of some of my favorite things from this past month. A lot of bloggers and vloggers have started making favorites posts and I wanted to get in on the action.

The Beach Box from Lush. I got this went to Atlanta and it's been perfect for summer. Everything in the box smells like the ocean. The sales associates that talked me into buying this really knew what they were talking about. The box is full of some great products and I haven't been able to get enough of it. The only thing in the box I haven't tried is the shampoo bar; honestly I just keep forgetting about it since it's still in the box.

Another beauty favorite has been Rimmel London's Show Off Lip Lacquer in Stellar. I bought two of these earlier in the month and love them both. Luna is more everyday, but I love wearing Stellar as a pick-me-up pop of color. It's great for going out or on those days you just need a bit extra to brighten your day.

This black button down from Express paired with my favorite blue shorts from American Eagle. I love cobalt blue and the shorts are a fun pop of color to a dressed up warm weather outfit with the top.

My favorite book this month was The Art of Racing in the Rain, which I reviewed last week. I absolutely loved this book and would definitely recommend it to anyone who loves dogs, although as a fair warning it gets a little Marley & Me.

Although a lot of good things happened this month, my favorite thing was seeing The Avett Brothers in concert with my family. I could not have asked for a better birthday present. The night was perfect, it will be hard to top this favorite in August or ever.
